Where Are You Looking?

The Action Bible Illustrated by Sergio Cariello and edited by Doug Mauss

William and I have a rhythm of reading his Bible first thing in the morning.  On this particular day, we read about Peter hearing the call of Jesus.  This call demanded great faith as Jesus was calling Peter to come to him by walking on the water during a storm.

Most of us can imagine swinging one leg over the side of the boat and expecting to feel the water on our feet.  I imagine that is what Peter was expecting too.  However, in this instance, the liquid became solid... or did it?  After a dozen steps, Peter realizes the impossibility of the moment.  His anxiety caused his belief to turn into disbelief, which is when he began to sink... which is when we all begin to sink, isn't it?

What about today, or even the past week or two, has caused your anxiety levels to rise?  As this happened did your eyes refocus on the external or did they remain on Jesus?  Don't just think about this for a moment.  Call someone, write a post about the experience, or talk to your friends or family about what happened and how that affected your faith.  Learn from these times and grow in your awareness of how you respond to anxiety and how Jesus' hand is already outstretched to pull you to safety once again.
